About the Samuel K. Buchanon Educational Assistance Fund
The Samuel K. Buchanon Educational Assistance Fund (SKB Fund) has been established to provide scholarships for dependent children of current, retired and deceased employees of St. Louis County Government.

Samuel K. Buchanon, the third generation of his family to work for the Department of Highways and Traffic, was a skilled carpenter and craftsman for 13 years. While driving to work on October 31, 2000, Sam was in an auto accident, complications from which took his life on November 12, 2000. Sam left two children and a wife.

Sam was a smiling and polite man with a powerful dedication to his religion and family, and was loved by all who knew him. He constantly worked to elevate his professional skills, and, at the time of his death, was actively pursuing higher education. Ultimately, he wanted to become an engineer.

Sam was an exemplary employee and teammate, and because of his strong, personal focus on higher education, this fund was created in his honor.

The Samuel K. Buchanon Educational Assistance Fund is a nonprofit Corporation with tax-exempt 501(c)(3) status, and is governed by a Board of Directors comprised of retired employees representing County Government Departments and a volunteer.

As of June 2018 we have awarded forty-six (46) $500 scholarships to St. Louis County Government dependents.

The SKB Fund is funded by St. Louis County Government employees and retirees. Fundraising efforts are ongoing and donations are graciously accepted.

Donations should be made payable to:
